Newark woman who owns Janice Rose Lingerie bra-fitting service, Sutton-on-Trent, to receive £2,000 after business named among UK's most exciting start-ups
A bra-fitting service has been named among the UK’s most exciting start-ups.
Janice Rose Lingerie, the brainchild of Janice Holmes, of Newark, was named one of eight winners of the SJL Foundation award at the Houses of Parliament.
She receives £2,000 and a year of free business mentoring.
Janice, 55, set up a bra showroom in Sutton-on-Trent and a mobile bra fitting service predominately focusing on elderly patients in care homes.
For the awards, each business owner pitched to a panel of business experts, including Simon Lancaster, founder of SJL Insurance and the SJL Foundation; former Dragon’s Den star and founder of gift experience company Red Letter Days, Rachel Elnaugh; and Kerry Hopkins, chief executive of communications agency Baron & Hopkins and digital video platform Broadcast Ready.
Simon Lancaster said Janice had found an untapped market, providing a mobile bra fitting and selling service to an ageing population, and the mentoring would help her reach more customers.
Janice said: “This will help maximise publicity by placing Janice Rose Lingerie on the map to success. Also it will allow me to give continuous training to the best possible standard and service to customers.
“By winning this competition I will be gaining knowledge from the experts in guiding me through the process on building my business profile to the next level.
“It will enable Janice Rose Lingerie to grow throughout the country on a franchise basis. I saw an unfulfilled market and as my ideas have developed I can now see a massive growth market for my business.”
Earlier this year, Janice appealed through the Advertiser for unwanted bras to be sent to The Gambia — she received more than 10,000.
Next month, she will travel to Africa to ensure the women are fitted with the right bra out of all of those donated.
