Next episode of Channel 5's Police Interceptors featuring Nottinghamshire Police includes forced stop, violent man resisting arrest and suspected smash and grab thieves

The third episode of Channel 5's Police Interceptors featuring the Nottinghamshire force features a dramatic forced stop, a violent man resisting arrest and a pair suspected of being smash and grab car thieves.

The show kicks off with a dramatic police chase through the city after a report a car had been stolen from a person at knife point.

In the footage, viewers can see firearms officers James Carrington and Dan Machin attend the incident, who spot the Volkswagen Golf and attempt to stop it at traffic lights. The passenger makes a run for it while the driver carries on.

The pair pursue the car being driven at reckless speeds through the city centre. The officers manage to bring it to a safe conclusion with a forced stop; arresting the driver and recovering a knife from the vehicle.

The incident happened on the evening of November 5, 2019, in the Sneinton area of Nottingham.

Police Sergeant James Carrington, who features heavily in the show, said: "We spotted the car a short time after it was reported stolen and engaged in a pursuit with it. We managed to stick with the driver after the passenger had jumped out, and ultimately brought it to a safe conclusion, arresting the driver and recovering the knife from inside the vehicle.”

Kian Rafter, 19, of Heather Close in St Ann's, pleaded guilty to robbery, possession of a bladed article and dangerous driving. He was sentenced to three years in prison.

The episode goes on to feature Sergeant Carrington once again when he and PC Katie Eustace respond to a distress call where a man had become violent and was resisting arrest.

PS Carrington said: "When colleagues shout for assistance over the radio it really pricks yours ears up, it's time to go and help. All you're thinking about is getting there to help your colleagues who may be getting hurt and to stop a criminal escaping or injuring your friends.

"Ultimately its safety in numbers, the more of us that are there the less chance there is of people getting hurt especially when dealing with a violent individual.

"Thankfully we were able to bring the situation under the control, arrest the man and put him before the courts."

Following the incident on November 22, 2019, in the Sherwood area, Troy Bukenya, 21, of Byron Street in Hucknall, pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting an emergency worker. He was sentenced to four months in prison, suspended for two years.

Viewers can also see Roads Policing Officers Andy Clarke and Phil Broughton as they try to track down a couple of smash and grab car thieves who've targeted high value tools form a tradesman's van, as well as officers joining neighbouring forces to try and stop a man crossing county lines to commit a string of thefts.

The show is aired every Monday night at 8pm on Channel 5.
