No defence evidence to be heard in Southwell plastic surgeon Dr Peter Brooks’ attempted murder trial

Evidence has concluded in the attempted murder trial of Dr Peter Brooks — with none being offered for the defence.

Judge Mr Justice Pepperall announced the end of evidence to the jury at court in Loughborough today (March 27).

Consultant plastic surgeon Dr Peter Brooks, formerly of Landseer Road, Southwell, is accused of two counts of attempted murder — by stabbing and arson — as well as charges of arson with intent to endanger life and possession of a bladed article.

Prosecution evidence concluded yesterday (March 26), and it has now been confirmed that no defence evidence is to be brought before the court.

Judge Pepperall told the jury: “Dr Brooks knows this is the time, as a defendant, where he can call or give evidence in his defence.”

The surgeon’s charges relate to an incident at his former Nottingham University Hospitals colleague Mr Graeme Perk’s home in Halam Hill on January 14, 2021.

Mr Perks suffered a significant stab wound during the incident which left him with just a 5% chance of survival, and parts of his home were also doused in a flammable petrol mix.

Dr Brooks is not present at his trial and has chosen not to have legal representation.

The trial is due to resume on Monday, March 31.
