Sherwood Forest Trust charity will plant native British trees thanks to Nottingham Forest fan-led movement

The Sherwood Forest Trust charity received a £2,500 donation from a Nottingham Forest fan-led movement.

Forza Garibaldi is a fan-led initiative supporting Nottingham Forest Football Club.

With the money received, the trust will preserve what remains of ancient Sherwood Forest by planting native British trees in historic areas of the Forest.

Forza Garibaldi raised the money earlier this summer.

They raffled a collection of flags that were displayed outdoors near the famous Major Oak, as well as a massive banner, representing Robin Hood.

“As the Nottingham Forest emblem is an oak tree, it’s appropriate that the money will help us put oaks and other native trees back into areas where woodland has been lost.” said Linda Hardy, of the Sherwood Forest Trust.

“Planting trees helps combat climate change and creates new habitats for wildlife.

“We’re really grateful to the fabulous Forza Garibaldi fans — using the power of the Reds to make Nottinghamshire a greener place.”
