Thousands of people made the most of warm weather on Saturday and Sunday at the 134th Nottinghamshire County Show at Newark Showground.
The return of large-scale agricultural machinery to the show was one of the event’s main highlights.More than 40 machinery exhibitors went along — the largest attendance for many years.
Other attractions included parades in the main ring on both days, instead of just one.
The show attracted around 1,000 light horses and 142 heavy horses, despite it clashing with Chatsworth International Horse Trials.
Keen young handlers took centre stage after a record number of entries to this year’s heavy horse event.
The event is one of the few county shows to have a wide variety of heavy horses, including rare breeds such as the Suffolk Punch and Clydesdale.
In the cattle classes, Defra policy on pre and post-movement TB testing of cattle led to lower entry numbers — down by about 80 to 320.
By contrast, entries in pig classes were up 50% on last year at 153, and there were 148 goat entries and 370 sheep.
The show’s headline main ring attraction was Broke FMX, the UK’s leading freestyle motor cross team, who performed on both days.
The Food Experience area, with its popular cookery demonstrations, was back again to celebrate the Best Of British.
The WI marked 100 years in Nottinghamshire by inviting each club to create a display on the theme Thanks For The Memories.
There was a flypast on both days by a Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, piloted by Flight Lieutenant Andy Preece.
The music marquee, part of the show for a second year, featured performances by Mansfield and District Male Voice Choir, the Choir of St Mary Magdalene and the Nottinghamshire Police Band.
