Nottinghamshire Police's bold target after leaving 'special measures'
Nottinghamshire Police has set itself the aim of becoming the best performing police force in England and Wales within five years.
The announcement follows the decision taken by Government watchdogs today to lift a year-long period of close supervision in recognition of significant improvements made by the force.
Since the Home Office took the decision in November 2009 to subject the Force to detailed scrutiny, intervention and support, the force has recorded a 16% reduction in crime – the second biggest reduction recorded by all forces in England and Wales.
In the same period, the force has also steadily increased the number of crimes detected, and has moved up the league table for detections from 33rd out of all 43 forces to 15th.
Chief Constable Julia Hodson said the force had come through a “difficult and challenging year” as a result of “the superb commitment, professionalism and dedication” of staff and the support of the police authority and other partners."
