Notts Police seeking playful hounds to hunt drugs
Energetic dogs which love chasing tennis balls are wanted by Nottinghamshire Police to help boost the fight against drugs.
The dog section is looking for springer spaniels or labradors aged between eight months and two years, to bolster the number of specialist drugs dogs at the force.
Dogs, which are cross-breeds of spaniels or labradors, sometimes known as springadors or labradingers, will also be considered.
Any dogs offered to the police would be tested to help identify whether the animal possesses the necessary instincts and temperament required. Any animals deemed suitable would be trained up as full time police sniffer dogs.
Dog handler, PC Geoff Tordoff, said: “We are looking for gift dogs, which are either kindly donated to us or are given in exchange for a small fee.
“We welcome both bitches and dogs but they must be gregarious, confident, and comfortable in both rural and urban environments.
“We also want the dogs to be energetic, playful and a bit toy ball crazy.”
Nottinghamshire Police currently has eight specialist drugs dogs, which are deployed to search both houses or open countryside, where drugs are suspected of being grown or stored.
Police drugs dogs also support inner city or town centre operations targeting drug dealing and drugs possession.
If anyone believes they have a dog which would be suitable for donation and assessment contact the Nottinghamshire Police Dog Section 0115 967 2180.
