Nurse set for hospice Sleepwalk
A nurse raising money in memory of her father will be among those taking part in the first Beaumond House Community Hospice Sleepwalk tomorrow.
Mrs Hilary Price, of Clarks Lane, Newark, will walk in memory of Mr Daniel Dainty, who died on August 10, aged 76.
She will walk the one-mile course at Newark Showground with her mother, Mrs June Dainty (71) of Linseed Avenue, Newark, and her daughter, Miss Louise Dainty (35) of Averham. They will all be wearing pyjamas.
Mrs Price said her father, who was suffering from cancer, spent time at Beaumond House.
“We were really happy with the staff there. I can’t speak too highly of the work they do,” she said.
She said the hospice allowed her mother to have a break and even gave her massages.
The day after her father’s death, Mrs Price read about the Sleepwalk and decided to take part.
“I thought it would be a good and positive way of giving something back to them,” she said.
Mrs Price, a nurse on the surgical ward at Newark Hospital, said several of her colleagues were also taking part.
She has set up a tribute fund for Beaumond House in her father’s name, so any money she raises will be donated in his memory.
The hospice is hoping about 2,000 people will join tomorrow’s event, which will coincide with World Hospice Day.
Leading the way will be Emily Pegg (7) of Cranmer Road, Newark.
She was asked to wear the number one sign because she raised more than £500 for the hospice last year by completing 200 bounces on her trampoline.
Emily wanted to do something for the hospice after her great-grandfather, Mr Stanley Beevers, of Wolsey Road, Newark, died there last summer, aged 85.
Participants should arrive at the showground at about 6.30pm to start at 7pm.
Entry is £10 for those aged 16 and over, £5 for under-16s, and £20 for a family of two adults and two children.
Walkers can be sponsored to raise even more. People entering on the evening should arrive by at least 6.15pm. Participants can carry torches of glowsticks.
