Olympic torch at charity fundraiser tonight
A teenage boy with a cancerous brain tumour will make an appearance at a fundraiser tonight with the Olympic Torch he recently carried.
Sam White, 15, will be at the Navigation Waterfront pub on Millgate, Newark, for an American Independence Day-themed event which will raise money for pioneering cell treatment he is having in Belgium.
Sam, from Newark, ran the Torch Relay leg into Newark Market Place on Thursday. He will have the torch that he carried with him and there is an opportunity for photographs. It was bought for him by some of his neighbours.
Tickets for the event are £10 and include food of burgers and hotdogs.
Music will be provided by the bands, The Artist and Little and Often.
There will also be a mini-fashion show by Un Vogue and an auction which will include a signed picture of The Wanted, courtesy of the family of band member Jay McGuiness, from Farndon.
Tickets are available in advance from Jayne Mason on 07799 664442, or at the Navigation Waterfront.
Sam is having Dendritic Cell Therapy that involves taking tissue from him to form a vaccine and needs help meeting the ongoing costs of his treatment and travel - £800 a week and £15,000 by the end of the pioneering trial.
