One-way system for Castlegate begins on Monday
A one-way system will be in place on a busy road in Newark town centre from Monday as the next phase of Severn Trent’s £60m sewer replacement scheme gets under way.
Traffic will move along Castlegate only from the Beastmarket Hill roundabout to the bus station on Lombard Street.
Traffic will still be able to access the carpark at Asda from both directions.
The one way system will be in force until mid-June.
It is the most significant phase so far of Severn Trent's scheme.
A free shuttle bus will operate on a loop around the town centre, starting and ending at the bus station.
It will stop on Lombard Street, London Road, Sherwood Avenue, Appletongate, Newark Northgate Station, Lincoln Street, Northgate, The Wharf and Castlegate.
The free shuttle service aims to help minimise disruption to existing bus services.
Operator Stagecoach is also making changes to other services running in Newark. They are:
Service 3: Buses will run a new, regular cross town route every 20 minutes all day, Monday to Saturday, between Balderton and Hawtonville, which will run via Lombard Street and Newark Bus Station.
Service 2: Buses will run every 30 minutes between the Lincoln Road Estates and temporary bus stops on The Wharf. Passengers may use the free shuttle bus to travel between The Wharf and Newark Bus Station.
Service 1: Buses will continue to run the current route and timetable every 30 minutes between Coddington and Bargate, which is adjacent to The Wharf. Passengers may use the free shuttle bus to travel between The Wharf and Newark Bus Station.
Out of Town: Buses running Services 28/29 Newark Southwell Mansfield and Service 46 Newark Lincoln will continue to run the current timetable but buses will start and finish at The Wharf instead of Newark Bus Station. Passengers may use the free shuttle bus to travel between The Wharf and Newark Bus Station.
