Open verdict over drugs death

The family of a woman who died after taking heroin for the first time will never know who injected her, Nottingham Coroner's Court heard today.

The assistant deputy coroner for Nottinghamshire, Miss Mairin Casey, recorded an open verdict at the inquest of Miss Karen Brown, 42, of Devon Road, Newark.

Miss Casey said she was satisfied that Miss Brown had not injected herself with heroin but it was unlikely to ever be known how the heroin got into her system.

The court heard that Miss Brown, who died on August 31 last year, was not a heroin user.

Her partner, Karl Wright, 30, who had previously admitted supplying heroin to Miss Brown, gave evidence during the inquest.

Neither he nor Richard Taylor, of Belmond Close, Newark, admitted injecting Miss Brown.

Taylor had previously admitted possession of heroin and supplying an article for the preparation of controlled drugs.
