A Newark opticians has set its sights on raising funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s Society with a charity book and bake sale.

Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care in St Mark's Shopping Centre will hold the event tomorrow (May 22) to mark Dementia Action Week (21-27 May).

Branch manager Sam Humphreys said: “It’s a cause we care about because dementia affects the lives of so many people in our community.

"There is a real need for continued research and support, so any donations will be gratefully received.”

Scrivens is supporting Alzheimer’s Society for a fourth successive year. It was chosen because of the growing evidence of a link between uncorrected hearing loss and dementia, including Alzheimer’s.

Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care is a family run business which was established in 1938. It has 182 stores in England and Wales, with 1,000 employees.
