Americana International Festival big comeback to Newark Showground eight years later

Fans of all things American are in for a treat this weekend as a popular festival makes its return.

Organisers have confirmed the Americana International Festival will go ahead at Newark Showground, despite the death of the Queen.

It is returning to Newark after an eight-year gap.

The festival — first established in 1980 — is now under new management.

Once the biggest American festival in Europe, it will feature live music, food, vehicles, tattoo stalls, displays and entertainment for all ages and tastes.

There will also be the chance to see riders tackle the Ken Fox wall of death.

“The American lifestyle is close to our hobbies and interest. We have our own American vehicles, motorcycles, we have the experience and knowledge,” said Terry Watson, head of management at Ashfield Promoters Ltd.

“We want to revive the festival. Newark is accessible for everybody from different parts of the country, it’s easy to find and the Newark Showground is great.”

The event starts tomorrow at 9am and runs until Sunday at 6pm.

The bars for the festival will close at 1.30am but 23 bands will perform from noon to midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Those taking their own American or highly customised vehicle are eligible for a free ticket, however, the vehicle would have to be in the display.
