Over 500 attend Southwell funday for a day of community focused festivities

After weeks of rain sunshine blessed Southwell on Saturday, drawing people out to The Burgage to enjoy a free, fun and food-filled day.

The event which ran from 12-4pm offered a wide-range of activities for all to get involved with, including jazz music and singing from the Jeanie Barton Trio, maypole dancing and a large selection of food.

"I think people had been cooped-up for so long they were ready to get out of the house, and the funday was the perfect opportunity," said Southwell events and tourism co-ordinator, Honor Dunkley.

Responding to the huge turn-out in numbers, she said: "It was great to see so many people of all ages attending with lots of fun and interesting things to do."

‘Discovering Southwell’ - a project celebrating the town's people, history and culture - invited people to their stall on Saturday to mark on a map of Southwell what was special to them and thanked everyone who came and supported the event.

The fun in the sun was a hit with local people who also got involved in trampolining, archery and raffles as part of the community event which will no-doubt attract similar numbers next year.
