Paper pigs all set to roam free
Papier-maché pigs will be put in Boughton Brake Wood when the area is used for a medieval fair today.
The area will be transformed to show how Sherwood Forest might have looked during that period.
Pigs would have roamed freely to feed on acorns and chestnuts.
Two life-size Gloucester Old Spot pigs, an ancient breed, and several smaller ones have been made by Positive Action, a mental health group based in Ollerton.
Ranger Miss Amy Chandler, 30, pictured with the pigs, said: “We have never made anything with papier-maché before. and especially not on this scale.”
She said if the pigs looked good, they would be left there until they were destroyed by the elements.
Activities at the event, 10am-3pm, will include archery, ancient crafts, and story telling.
There will also be face painting, refreshments and animals from the White Post Farm, Farnsfield.
A similar event was held last year to mark the 20th anniversary of the Friends of Boughton Brake.
It is hoped to make it an annual event.
