Uniformed organisations’ parade and service in Southwell mark Remembrance Sunday
Military representatives and uniformed groups have paraded through a town centre to mark it’s annual Remembrance service.
Southwell’s commemorative service, held in part at the Burgage War Memorial and at the Minster, was attended by Army cadets, members of the University Royal Naval Unit, Scouts, Girl Guides, military representatives, veterans and councillors.
The uniformed organisations gathered at the Burgage from 10.30am on Sunday (November 10), with many members of the public also turning up to pay their respects.
The chairman of Southwell Town Council, Peter Harris, welcomed attendees before wreaths were laid.
The flags of the various organisations where held by standard bearers stood around the memorial, which had also had crosses placed in the grass beside it.
Southwell Minster’s bells were rung at 11am, which was followed by the two minute silence, and prayers.
The parade then formed, to process along King Street, past the Market Place and on to Westgate and the Minster.
Dignitaries and uniformed young people were watched by gathered crowds on the pavements as they passed through the town centre.
A service of Remembrance was then held in the Minster, with all welcome to attend.
