Newark resident Tanja Hope has been reunited with her missing parakeet after seeing Newark Advertiser's Facebook post
Newark's Tanja Hope was reduced to tears after finding out her young parakeet was safe.
The Cleveland Square resident has reunited with her parakeet, Baby, after reading a facebook post by the Newark Advertiser.
Baby, who is 18 months old, went missing on October 13.
He was found just under one mile away from his Cleveland Square home, as he made his way inside Newark Library, before being taken into the care of the RSPCA Radcliffe Animal Centre later that day.
"When I found out he was okay I dropped my phone and started crying," said Tanja Hope, who was reunited with her bird on Wednesday 31 October.
"I thought I was never going to see him again."
"I have two parakeets and I lost both.
"One of them (Borris) was sat in next doors willow tree, and he came back within three hours."
But Baby, unlike six month old Borris, did not return, and Tanja left for a holiday to Gran Canaria unsure on his whereabouts.
However, on October 22, Tanja received what she claims is the best holiday surprise ever.
"When I was on holiday I wanted to see what was going on in Newark," said Tanja.
"I had a look on Facebook and then the post by yourselves (the Newark Advertiser) came through.
"I knew straight away it was him and I said to myself, you little bugger."
Tanja commented on the Facebook post titled 'Parakeet up for adoption' and said 'It's only my little guy... I am so pleased he is fit and healthy'.
After calling the Radcliffe Animal Centre on her Canary Islands holiday, Tanja went back and forth as she provided evidence to prove that Baby was hers, she said: "I want to let people know that you need to have a copy of your pets ring number, as it was hard to prove he was mine.
"I tried to get documents from the pet shop but I had no luck there.
"Luckily, I saw his number in a photo.
"I was lucky I had so many photos of him as several people tried to adopt him.
"One person was adamant he was hers, but she could not prove it."
Tanja confirmed Baby is happy at his original home and she has since returned to the aforementioned Facebook post and said 'big reunion, got him home... Thank you everyone'.
