Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols to be held at Newark Parish Church in run up to Christmas

Newark Parish Church is inviting people to the annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols.

The traditional service tells the Christmas story in nine short Bible readings on Sunday from 5pm.

The event will be accompanied by the singing of Christmas and choir anthems, featuring the church choir.

Director of music Stephen Bullamore said: “For me, the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is both the start and the heart of Christmas.

"It is a traditional service; we keep the tradition alive by renewing the music we sing.

"This year we include music by living composers from this country, from Norway and from America."

This year includes music by living composers from the UK, Norway and the US.
