Wagtail Country Park's memorial fundraiser pulls in almost £5,000

Thousands of pounds were raised for charity at a party in the park in memory of a Newark woman who died in May.

The event took place at Wagtail Country Park, Marston, where Karen Briggs-Price spent much of her time.

The park is owned by her sister and brother-in-law, John and Sandra Cooke. They, their daughter Charlotte, and her partner, Mark Farren, along with park staff, arranged the event.

Park manager Susan Biddle said the day had been a huge success, raising £4,886.60 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

“It was an amazing day,” she said. “Everything went so well. The park was full and the weather was brilliant.”

More than £1,200 of the total was raised from people paying to dunk John Cooke in a lake.

A tug of war competition was won by The Boys, a team made up of park staff and guests. Other attractions included food and drinks, games, stalls, music, raffle and tombola.

Susan said local businesses had been very generous in supporting the event.
