Paul Davidson puts blind faith in Netty Stevens as haircut raises more than £500 for Counselling and Support for Young People
A visually-impaired woman, who took part in a blind cut for charity, has raised £587.50.
Netty Stevens, who lost her sight at 34, cut off the hair of her running guide, Paul Davidson, on Sunday to raise money for Counselling and Support for Young People (CASY). It provides help to those between six and 25 who have had their lives affected by mental health issues.
The event took place at the town’s Navigation pub on Sunday
.
The Newark resident said: “I want to say a massive thank you to Paul and everyone involved.
“Paul was a great sport. They all encouraged me to use the shears and also told me how short to cut Paul’s hair.
“I also want to thank everyone who donated prizes and on our JustGiving page.
“I am so pleased with everyone who turned up on the day and I am really blessed with the help and support I received form my family and friends.
“CASY is a fantastic charity and I am proud to support them as my family and some of my friends have children that have been negatively affected by mental and emotional health issues.”
As well as cutting Grantham resident Paul’s hair, Netty also held a raffle with prizes donated by friends and family. She said: “We received 18 prizes one of the prizes was from Newark Cycles — a £60 service charge.
“The winner, Jim Lovett, donated it to our tandem, which is what we use for visually-impaired riders and with sighted pilots.”
Netty had a standby hairdresser and a former healthcare worker on the day in case something went wrong. Now that the cut is done, Netty plans to focus on her running and she will be running the London Marathon in April.
