Pensioner evades police search

A 71-year-old care home resident evaded police attempts to find him for eight hours.

The Nottinghamshire Police helicopter and its powerful searchlights were used to search for the man who was reported missing from the Newark care home at 8.30pm last night.

Despite the attention of officers on the ground and in the skies, the man made it 22 miles to Mansfield where he was found safe and well at 4.30am.

"Despite his age, he wrong-footed everyone," said a police spokesman.
