Newark residents share their favourite memories of the town, emphasising Newark Royal Market

Change does not only happen to people, but to cities and culture as well — and Newark is no exception.

We went out to hear what Newark people had to say about how the town used to be and what they miss the most.

“I miss how Newark used to be but you can’t go back can you? You have to move forward, so my son keeps telling me,” said Margaret Johnson, who is Newark born and raised.

Many of those we interviewed remembered how busy the town centre and market used to be, with people queuing at market stalls.

"There used to be a lot of shops around here, but now they're closing and the market isn't the same. But at the end of the day, Newark is where we live and wouldn't want to change it," said Newark resident Margaret Olsson.

Although people said they missed how the town used to be, they agreed times change and we all had to adapt and learn to appreciate what is new.
