Person dies after being hit by train at Newark Northgate station




A person has sadly died after being hit by a train at Newark Northgate station.

Police and paramedics were called to the station today following reports of a serious incident on the line.

All services through Newark were cancelled and while the line has been re-opened, disruption is expected until 4pm.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Newark North Gate railway station at 9.18am today (March 11) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however, sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are currently working to identify the person and establish the full circumstances behind their death."

Train operator LNER has advised customers not to travel today.
