Person dies after being hit by train near Newark Northgate station

A person has died after being hit by a train near Newark Northgate Station.

British Transport Police said they were working to identify the person and inform their family.

The incident, which was reported at 10.47am, is not being treated as suspicious.

East Midlands Trains said services on the Leicester/Lincoln/Grimsby route were being disrupted.

The station has now re-opened and services are able to call at the station in both directions.

Trains from Newark Castle station were unaffected.

Virgin Trains East Coast said a normal service was expected to resume at approximately 6.30pm.
