Pet cat shot with air gun

A pet cat was shot and had an air gun pellet removed from its leg.

A vet removed the pellet after the cat returned home to its owner on Elizabeth Road, Newark, on Saturday.

Newark RSPCA Inspector Ian Callingham said harming pets carried a penalty of up to six months in prison and/or a £1,000 fine.

“Hitting a cat in the head or in a vital organ could kill them,” Inspector Callingham said.

“Shooting across gardens is also a criminal offence.

“There are plenty of ways to deter cats from your garden without hurting them, water being one of the main ones.

“This is a lovely soft-natured domestic cat and what happened was a deliberate, sick act.”

Anyone with information should call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.
