Plan to improve standards at The Magnus

The Magnus School, Newark, looks set to become a National Challenge Trust School, in partnership with The Minster School, Southwell.

The proposal by the Magnus School’s interim executive board would lead a long-term relationship that would benefit both schools.

The Magnus, which was placed in special measures last year, already works in partnership with The Minster.

Its trust would be made up of trustees from the Minster School’s governing body, its own interim executive board and other organisations.

It would appoint a new governing body for The Magnus, whose members would, in time, take over the role performed by the IEB.

The proposal is designed to raise academic standards at The Magnus.

Staff, parents, students and the wider community at both schools will be consulted up to April 27.

A meeting for parents and the community at The Magnus takes place on Monday from 5pm-7pm and at The Minster on Wednesday from 5pm-7pm.

If the proposal is agreed, it will come into effect in September 2009.
