Plans for children’s home in Balderton lodged by Kedleston Group to help children with additional needs “realise their potential”
An application has been submitted for the change of use of a Balderton house to a children’s home.
Kedleston Group, a provider of schools and homes for autistic children and those with social, emotional and mental health needs, has lodged the application for 207 London Road.
It is proposed to help children additional needs “realise their potential through a stable environment”.
The house is a large five-bedroom property with accommodation across three storeys, and already has parking space for three vehicles.
No changes would be made to the exterior of the house, with alterations inside limited to an existing dressing room and ensuite bathroom in the master suite being converted to a self-contained staff bedroom and bathroom.
The home would provide care for up to five children between the ages of eight to 17, and the only staff employed on-site would be a team of 18 part-time carers.
The carers will not live at the address permanently, but instead rotate on a shift basis with four on site at any one time.
Tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and gardening would be carried out by the children and their carers rather than specific staff, in order to replicate a family home environment.
Addressing vehicle movements and noise disturbance, planning documents stated: “Given the relatively small-scale nature of this use, the proposal will not result in any comings and goings in excess of those which could reasonably be expected in this mainly residential area.
“Moreover, there is no reason to suggest that the creation of a children’s care home in this location would result in any other material amenity concerns in respect of privacy, noise and disturbance or anti-social behaviour.”
The application will be decided by Newark and Sherwood District Council at a later date.
