Farol Ltd, John Deere’s largest dealer, is hoping to open an outlet at Overfield Park, off the A17.

The company is a family-owned business and already runs six similar dealerships across south and central England.

Construction company Lindum Group has submitted plans for the building, which would be on a five-acre site near the Wirtgen Group headquarters.

If approved, the development would create 20 jobs, rising to 46 as the dealership becomes established.

Overfield Park is set over 25 acres of former airfield and farm land between the A17 and Newark Showground.

It has outline planning consent for light and heavy industrial use, commercial offices, car showrooms and hotel or leisure developments.

The planned dealership would sell, service and maintain agricultural machinery, and the proposals include plans for a new access road.

The application site is on the east of the site, next to the Wirtgen Group headquarters. The Wirtgen Group, whose core business is the development and production of machinery for road construction, maintenance and mineral processing, was acquired by John Deere in 2017.

The application site has been chosen to capitalise on the link.

Lindum Group is developing Overfield Park on behalf of landowners Richard Overton and Thomas Hounsfield.

Development manager Rob Fox said that, if successful, the plan would see the continued sustainable development of the area, which is an allocated employment site in Newark and Sherwood District Council local planning policy.

“The Wirtgen Group development has been extremely beneficial to the area, boosting the economy and enhancing employment figures in the district,” he said.

“This application would represent a continuation of these benefits.

“The design of the scheme is high quality using a modern palette of materials and modern construction methods.

“It would be eye-catching, with large glazed panels at the front. The scheme matches the brand image of John Deere, and is a design that has been successfully delivered on numerous occasions before.”
