Plans lodged with Newark and Sherwood District for House of Multi Occupany (HMO) above shops on MIddlegate
Plans have been lodged to create a house of multi-occupancy, or HMO, above some Newark town centre shops.
An application lodged with Newark and Sherwood District Council calls for the retention and refurbishment of ground-floor commercial unit and conversion of first and second floor to create a six-bedroom HMO at 42-46 Middlegate.
The application says the premises have been vacant for several months, with the most recent use being for retail on the ground-floor with ancillary storage on the first and second floors.
Numbers 42-46 Middlegate comprise a three-storey building fronting on to Middlegate in Newark town centre. The application says the property is in need of modernisation and updating as many features over the various floors are dilapidated and not fit for modern purposes.
The first and second floors extend over the retail shops of 42–44 Middlegate, however, the ground floors of 42–44 Middlegate are existing active retail units and do not form part of the application.
42 Middlegate is part of the neighbouring Grade II Listed building that spans across 38, 40 and 42 Middlegate.
There are no plans to provide parking spaces, but a bike store would be provided.
