Plans to build nearly 90 new homes on a former BMX track site have been published by Newark and Sherwood District Council.

The proposed development, off Lord Hawke Way and Bowbridge Road, Newark, is an allocated site for the provision of housing.

The site will be opposite the newly completed Newark Sports and Fitness Centre.

The application has been submitted by Arkwood, the council’s private development company, which has plans for 87 new homes.

Jackson Design Associates, of Ollerton, released a full and detailed report on the proposed design and access of the site.

It includes 87 new homes as well as 150 carparking spaces and 22 cycle spaces.

There would be a new vehicle and pedestrian access into the site from Lord Hawke Way and enhanced pedestrian access into the site from Bowbridge Road.

The proposal also includes a green infrastructure network of retained vegetation, new landscape habitats of hedges and trees, enhanced and extended formal and informal pedestrian links, and areas of public open space.

According to the submission, now the sports and fitness centre has been completed, which saw the provision of the Lord Hawke Way access road, the Bowbridge Road entrance can support the development.

The report said: “There is a good provision of public open space; a walking route through the site leads to Balderton Lake (a recreation area owned and maintained by the parish council).”

There are also plans to develop a Community and Activity Village to the east of the site boundary by YMCA Nottinghamshire.
