Norwood Gardens and Ridgeway play area among areas identified for Southwell bike track

A long-term redevelopment plan is being put together by councillors to help provide recreational facilities.

Southwell Town Council’s environment committee are considering a ten-year plan, which could see the introduction of a bike track, to help redevelop Norwood Gardens and the Ridgeway play area.

Chairman of the committee Peter Harris said the council, together with a working group, were still identifying possible land — with the aforementioned area being considered.

“It isn’t a proposal to have the bike park there, but I am hoping to have a report back to identify possible land and create the budget,” said Mr Harris.

Penny Rainbow questioned the suitability of the Norwood Gardens area for a bike track.

She said: “We need to have emergency access because it is a narrow path and there would be a high incident rate with people dashing around on bikes.

“It is a good thing for people to be out in the fresh air, don’t get me wrong. But is that the right area? Would there be lighting there? Who is going to look after this? These are all things that we need to take into consideration.

“Personally, I don’t think this would receive favourable comments.”

The council will hear back from the working group in July.
