Plenty to do at family fun day in Southwell
A Spitfire fly-past will be among the highlights of a fun day in Southwell.
Held on the Burgage between noon and 4pm on Saturday, there will be a variety of activities on offer at the free event.
The Spitfire is from the Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight, based at RAF Coningsby.
Organiser Honor Dunkley, the town’s events and tourism co-ordinator, said: “It’s a pleasant afternoon on people’s doorsteps.
“People can come along and bring a rug and a picnic to enjoy what’s on offer.
“It is a beautiful setting and there will be plenty to see and do.”
Pupils from Lowe’s Wong Infants’ School will perform Maypole dancing.
'A celebration of the community'
A brass ensemble, Essen-tially Brass, will provide music, visitors can try out a football game, and Southwell Leisure Centre will be on hand to encourage healthy eating and a more active lifestyle.
Other attractions include a six-bed trampoline, have-a-go archery, a circus skills workshop, and an entertainer.
Several local pre-schools, the Southwell Live At Home scheme and the Framework charity will be at the event.
The Royal British Legion and the Army cadets will also be represented.
“It is a celebration of the community and those living here in Southwell,” said Mrs Dunkley.
“People of all ages can come along and enjoy it.”
Visitors to the fun day can also try their hand at yarn bombing.
The event is organised by Southwell Town Council.
