Newark Police appealing for information following Marks and Spencer break-in last night




Nottinghamshire Police are appealing for witnesses and information after burglars broke into a Newark shop.

Marks and Spencer, Stodman Street, was burgled at around 8.15pm yesterday.

A window was smashed and a quantity of alcohol was stolen.

Officers arrived at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing including a review of CCTV footage.

Inspector Heather Sutton, Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for the Newark and Sherwood area, said: "We’re working hard to catch these offenders and we’re appealing for the public’s help to catch those responsible.

"There will have been people in the town centre around the time of the burglary. Did you see anyone acting suspiciously or witness any other suspicious activity? We want to hear from you and we’re urging anyone with any information to please call us on 101.

"We already have an operation running in Newark town centre to target crime which including officers patrolling in plain clothes.

"We want to reassure the community that we will deal robustly with anyone committing crime in the town centre and will do all we can to bring any offenders to justice."

Anyone who saw anything or who has any information about the burglary is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 945 of 15 November 2018, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
