One of Nottinghamshire Police's brilliant police dogs is off to a national competition.
Two members of Nottinghamshire Police's dog section are taking part in a prestigious competition for police dogs and their handler this week.
Having recently won the East Midlands Regional Police Dog Trials, Sergeant Gavin Berry and PD Tommy will be competing at the 59th National Police Dog trials in Gwent from Thursday (May 16) to Monday (May 20).
PD Tommy has had over 250 deployments during his short time at Nottinghamshire Police, which resulted in many arrests. He was raised by police dog trainer PC Pete Baxter, who will also be at the event cheering on his four-legged friend.
PC Baxter said: "He's still a young dog but I'm very pleased with his achievements, especially winning the East Midlands trials and the FiresideK9 competition we did in West Yorkshire last year.
"I'm very much looking forward to getting to the trials and seeing how much he enjoys the action."
Chief Constable Craig Guildford will be there to support the duo and receive the National Police Dog Trials flag, ready for next year when Nottinghamshire will host the event.
"I just want to wish Sergeant Berry and PD Tommy the best of luck at the National Police Dog Trials.
"I'm very hopeful after the success of the East Midlands Police Dog Trials and I'm confident that both of them will give it everything they have.
"I'm also very much looking forward to being there in person for the hand-over of the flag and I'm delighted that we're able to welcome the event to Nottinghamshire next year."
