Police fear for mans safety

Concern is mounting for a young Newark man who has not been seen since Sunday evening.

Newark’s police chief, Inspector Martin Holford, yesterday appealed through the Advertiser to Brian Junior Gibson (20): “If you are alive and well contact us or your family.”

There have been no confirmed sightings of Brian of Yorke Drive, Newark, since he bought alcohol at the Wine Rack on Northgate, Newark, at 7.20pm on Sunday.

There are unconfirmed reports that he was near the King’s Marina, at a popular site with the homeless, at around 9.15pm that night.

Although the case is being treated as a missing person inquiry, a team is ready in case evidence of foul play emerges.

He has had no contact with his mother, with whom he is close, which is described as completely out of character.

Inspector Holford said: “If he feels that he cannot contact us then I would say: ‘Contact your family.’ Your mother is going out of her mind with worry.

“Anything that you may or may not have done we can sort out later.”

The police are checking the Trent, and dozens of uniformed officers are combing the Yorke Drive area and the river banks.

Local officers are dealing with tensions that are building in the Yorke Drive area.
