Nottinghamshire Police rescue three dogs locked in a house on Pelham Street, Newark, for three weeks amid public outrage and accusations RSPCA did nothing




Police have rescued three emaciated and starving dogs that were abandoned in a house in Newark.

They acted minutes after the Advertiser published a story online on the animals’ plight having issued a statement to say the responsibility for action lay with the RSPCA.

Neighbours of the property on Pelham Street said the police attended amid concerns from the public, some of whom went to Pelham Street to try to help the pets who had been locked inside the address for three weeks.

Posting on Facebook, Newark Police said: “This evening Newark and Sherwood Operation Reacher have attended an address in Newark where we have temporarily taken three dogs into our control to have them medically assessed.

“This is following concerns raised by local residents surrounding the living conditions of the three animals.”

Neighbours, who had been contacting the RSPCA every day for weeks in an attempt to get the animal charity to intervene, thanked the Advertiser or its intervention, havinng described their fear for the dogs’ lives and describing a game of ping pong between the RSPCA and police as to whose responsibility it was.
