Police investigating the death of a Tuxford man have issued an appeal to the public to help trace his last movements.

The body of Peter Nuttall was recovered from the River Trent at High Marnham on Saturday October 15.

It was initially thought that he had drowned but a post mortem revealed he died from a single gunshot would to the head.

Police searches have failed to use the gun used.

The 44-year-old was last seen at around 6pm on Wednesday October 12 and reported missing by relatives on Saturday October 15.

His body was found by a member of the public later on Saturday and his car, a silver/grey Renault Laguna, was located a short distance away in the carpark of the Brownlow Arms pub.

Officers are preparing a report for the coroner’s office and are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen Mr Nuttall’s car or someone at the river’s edge near the pub at any time after 6pm on Wednesday October 12 or during Thursday October 13.

Detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with his death, but they have issued an appeal to anyone who may have found a firearm on the river bank close to the pub between October 12 and 15 and not reported it to police.

Searches of the river bed have not yet located the weapon.

Anyone with information should telephone Nottinghamshire Police on 01623 483020 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
