Police warn of fireworks misuse

Police are warning anyone caught misusing fireworks that they risk an on-the-spot fine.

Chief Inspector Sean Anderson said: “We are already receiving reports this year of incidents involving fireworks so are appealing to members of the public to act responsibly for their own and other people’s safety.

“Having the power to issue fines for firework offences enables a quick response to be taken and allows us to crack down on the anti-social use of fireworks.”

In the most serious cases, misusing fireworks is an arrestable offence, and if found guilty by the courts, a fine of up to £5,000 can be issued.

Police are appealing to the public to help by reporting incidents of firework misuse or reporting those who are buying or selling them illegally.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 0300 300 9999 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
