Nottinghamshire Police have wished everybody a happy Halloween while reminding people that not everybody wants to take part.

"If you don’t want to be bothered by trick-or-treaters, you can download and print the poster linked below to put in your window," said a Nottinghamshire Police spokesman.

"If you are heading out whether that’s with children or with friends, follow these helpful tips to stay safe," said the spokesman.

"Go with a responsible adult or carer or make sure someone knows exactly where you’re going and what time you’ll be back

"Respect signs or posters asking you not to trick or treat at someone’s house.

"If there are no pumpkins or decorations outside a house, consider that the residents don’t want to be disturbed.

"Don’t go alone – stay with your group.

"Be careful when crossing roads.

"Take a torch or wear something brightly coloured so motorists can see you.

"We hope you have a spooky time but remember to stay safe and put the poster in your window if you want to be left alone."
