A pony was rescued from the River Trent off Mill Lane, Newark, yesterday evening.

Newark Fire Brigade's red watch was called out at 5.10pm after the pony, called Dexter, had slipped off the river bank into the water.

The pony was rescued by his owner, Mr Leeroy Briggs-Price, 35, of Millgate, Newark, who waded into the river and used a line thrown out by the fire service to retrieve him.

He said the pony was perfectly fine.
