Colleagues at Newark’s Bakkavor Dessert have chosen Children’s Bereavement Centre as its charity of the year
A popular dessert business has adopted a charity dedicated to supporting young people facing grief as its charity of the year.
Every year, Newark-based Bakkavor Desserts adopts a charity to give sustained support over the following 12 months and this year Children’s Bereavement Centre was the chosen one.
The charity which supports children aged three to 18 provides professional help to young people coping with the grieving process brought on by the death or terminal illness diagnosis of a loved one, received more than 50% of Bakkavor employees votes.
Andrjez Szokalski, general manager of operations at Bakkavor Desserts Newark said: “On behalf of everyone at Bakkavor Desserts, we are delighted to support The Children’s Bereavement Centre in 2025.
“Already, a number of colleague-supported initiatives are in the diary. Our people will volunteer in The Centre’s community garden and the the first fundraising event of 2025 will see us support a sponsored duck race along the River Trent in early March.
“This is just the start of a 12-month programme of concentrated support, in which we hope to make a real difference to such an important local charity and the vital work they do in our community.”
Bakkavor colleagues choosing their charity of the year for 2025 follows a programme of successful match funding in recent weeks.
Bakkavor has donated £1,500 match funding to Barnby Road Academy Community Wellbeing Group, and £500 each to the Children’s Bereavement Centre and Beaumond House Hospice.
