Bangkok Express Thai takeaway to open in former China Garden premises in Balderton, Newark, Nottinghamshire
A Thai takeaway that has been operating for almost three years from home will be moving into the premises of a former Chinese premises in the new year.
Mother and daughter Tira and Prim Young will be running Bangkok Express which will be opening at 13 Brisbane Court in Balderton.
"We are hoping to open around the second week of January," said Tira.
"There is still a lot to do, we are still operating a takeaway from our home.
"We are still fixing up the shop, organising menus, and looking at recruitment."
Tira said that the most popular dish for people in Newark since they have been operating the business is the crispy chicken in sweet chili sauce.
"The Pad Thai is popular as well," added Tira.
The business started in March 2021 during covid.
"One day my mum came up to me and said I want to start selling food from home," said Tira.
"She told me she would be happy if she had one order.
"We started looking into it, spoke to the council, and got the permissions we needed.
"We started from there.
"Our plan now is to have the takeaway open in January and we will also deliver.
"We plan to have tables out the front during the summer months."
Tira said what sets them apart is the quality of the ingredients and the menu which provides a variety of different dishes.
"We are a takeaway business but we provide restaurant quality food," said Tira.
"We have a good butcher across the way, J Cottier family butchers and we use them a lot.
"Over the last two and a half years we have built up a good reputation.
"We didn't think we would get this far but it is the logical next step.
"There are a lot of regular customers that we hope will follow us here when we open.
"We want to thank all of our customers, without you we would not be opening this takeaway.
"In the future, we also look forward to welcoming new customers."
"I love cooking," said Prim who added that cooking is her passion.
"To open this takeaway is my dream.
"We have looked around Newark for a while for a suitable shop," said Tira.
"Every time my mum went to the butcher, she saw this shop and has always admired it.
"We will be open Tuesday to Sunday in the evenings but we will expand the hours if the demand is there.
"It took us a while to find something but we love the location so when it became available we went for it."
