Post office on agenda

The MP for Newark, Mr Patrick Mercer, will meet a Post Office representative today over proposed changes to its service at Sutton-on-Trent.

The village post office closed on Saturday but is due to re-open with what residents say is a downgraded service.

Rather than have a separate counter for Post Office services, the proposal is for all transactions to take place alongside retail sales in the shop that takes it over.

Lincolnshire Co-op, which has a store next to the former post office, has been approached.

Mr Mercer has arranged the meeting with the Post Office.

Councillors for the area will also attend.

A petition against the proposal with more than 500 signatures will be handed over at the meeting.
