Newark's Kieran Anderson brought back to 'earth' with a bump as costly court case follows plant pot theft
The theft of a £14 plant pot led to a costly appearance in court for 34-year-old Kieran Anderson.
Anderson, of Stoke Avenue, Newark, pinched the plant pot from Mole Country Stores on March 17.
He also damaged one of the store’s trolleys, valued at £38, during the course of the less-than-sophisticated theft.
Anderson then launched the pot at a police car during his prompt arrest, smashing it, and denting the car's rear door in the process.
At Nottingham Magistrates' Court, Anderson admitted theft and two counts of criminal damage and was fined £253, told to pay £52.28 compensation to Mole Country Stores and costs of £119.
Inspector Matt Ward, divisional commander for policing Newark and Sherwood, said: “The good work of the officers involved in this case and the penalty handed down by the magistrates clearly shows crime doesn't pay for Mr Anderson.”
