Power cut affects council tax payments

A power cut at Newark Town Hall means council tax payments cannot be processed at the district council's payments' office.

April 1 is the day that the first monthly installment of the new council tax year is due.

A spokesman for the district council said: "Our cash office at Newark Town Hall is temporarily unavailable as a result of a power failure - which is also affecting a number of neighbouring buildings in the area - and is beyond our control.

"This is being investigated by Western Power and we are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

"Our other offices at Kelham, Hawtonville and Ollerton are open as usual and payments can also be taken by telephone or online."
