Collingham and District Pre-school plant trees at Gusto Homes site as part of Queen’s jubilee celebrations
Pre-schoolers planted trees at a housing development as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative.
Pupils from Collingham and District Pre-school planted the saplings on the open space at the Gusto Homes development in the village for the Queen’s jubilee.
The children followed in the footsteps of Collingham children who planted more than 500 trees on the same site 24 years ago.
One of those pupils, Harry Norton, who was seven at the time, has bought a home on the development and walks through the woods he helped plant.
Gusto Homes chief executive Steff Wright said: “There is a Chinese proverb which says ‘the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago, the second best time is now’.
“Tree planting is an important part of addressing the climate crisis alongside all the other benefits created by having more trees in our communities.”
