For those in the know, The Prince Rupert pub in Newark set to launch speakeasy bar

A popular town centre establishments has re-opened following an extensive £170,000 refurbishment, and there’s more new touches opening this week.

The Prince Rupert pub, located on Stodman Street and dates back to 1452, has undergone a makeover, and promises to create a community pub that still delivers its medieval charm and heritage — but with “modern playful touches”.

Those in the know will also be able to enjoy ‘The Woolpack’ speakeasy bar, which opens on Friday (October 18) and pays homage to the pub’s earlier identity.

The Woolpack is accessed via a previously hidden entrance, and will be providing moody lighting, killer cocktails, and a nod to the 1970s.

The pub’s interior has been retouched with new contemporary finishes — but still with all medieval nooks and crannies.

Alongside the real ales and drinks choices already loved by locals, a bigger, bolder range of spirits, ciders and craft beers will also be available, creating the perfect any time-of-day escape for drinking and dining with friends and family.

The food menu will continue to celebrate and showcase pub classics, as well as brand new pizza options.

General manager Samantha Johnson has been running The Prince Rupert Pub for nine years.

She said: “We can’t wait to throw open the doors and welcome guests in to explore what we’ve created here.

“Providing quality, laid-back experiences that keep people coming back time and again is so important to us, and we are looking forward to delivering a beautiful space where the community, and visitors to the area, can escape, switch off and relax.
