Pupils at a Newark school are taking on a challenge to attend on time for more than 27 consecutive days for the chance to win a scooter.

Children at Lover’s Lane Primary School have been set the challenge by the deputy head, Mr Jason Webster, in a bid to improve punctuality and attendance.

Mr Webster said: “The children are really excited about it and they all want to win. We are hoping to do this each term with a different prize.”

Children who attend school on time for 29 days will have three tickets entered into a draw to win one of two scooters. Those who attend on time for 28 days get two tickets and for 27 days pupils receive one ticket.

Pupils who are absent from school more than twice in the half-term will not be allowed to enter the draw. It will take place on the last day of term in February.

Youngsters from Lover’s Lane and Mount schools who achieved 95% attendance, the government’s target level, attended parties together to mark their achievement.
