Budding artists awarded for posters created in Newark Stop Hate Crime competition

Artists Bill and Nadia Ming had the tough task of judging an A4 poster competition for Newark Stop Hate Crime in the Buttermarket.

First, second and third prizes were awarded along with three more highly-commended posters.

All the poster entries are displayed in the windows in the Buttermarket for the public to view.

First prize winner Bailey Lamb's entry. (42766355)

Bailey Lamb, a 14-year-old Traveller, went along to view the exhibition and collected her first prize, a voucher for Hills Art and Graphics shop on Barnbygate, so she can choose art materials for herself, from town councillor Lisa Geary.

The shield for the poster competition, awarded to an organisation for encouraging the winners to take part, went to the Newark and Sherwood District Council Gypsy/Traveller Food Project. First and third prizes were awarded to girls from this group.

Special thanks went to community relations officer Nickie Anthony for encouraging so many young people to take part this year from local schools and projects.

The National Holocaust Centre, Laxton, was pleased to hear the public valued the opportunity to view the exhibition of the Roma in the Holocaust and has agreed it can remain in the Buttermarket until at least November 5.

This was the third prize-winning entry third prize poster sent anonymously by an entrant from the Gypsy/Traveller Food Project.

The shield for the video competition will be awarded to Reach Learning Disability for a second year for a new three-minute video they made of some of their members talking about their experiences.
