Pub hosts scooter riders
About 150 scooter enthusiasts met at the Horse and Jockey, Newark, on Wednesday for a monthly rally organised by the East Midlands Scooter Association.
Newark Scooter Club hosted the event, from 8pm.
Spokesman Mr Darren Misiak, 40, of Cottage Close, Balderton, said the meetings were a chance for enthusiasts to get together.
“You get outside and enjoy the weather on nice evenings and the atmosphere at the meetings is great,” he said.
Mr Mark Joslin, 42, of Newton Street, Newark, said: “The buzz from riding out together in a big group is amazing. You get real respect from other motorists. It’s really good fun.”
Mr Joslin said Newark Scooter Club had been running for 30 years.
“This Easter we were away in Whitby and decided to make it official and get some club T-shirts printed,” he said.
“There are about 15 members but lots of people have scooters in their garages so the club could be really good if they came down.”
Mr Misiak said clubs from various towns met at the East Midlands Scooter Association annual meeting to decide which month each club would host a meeting.
He said the Newark club was part of a larger group known as Bingham, Newark and Nottingham area Scooterists, or, BaNaNas, which he started six years ago.
He said he started looking for a pub to host meetings in Newark and the landlord of the Horse and Jockey, Mr Ped Cummings, agreed because he was a big scooter enthusiast.
Anyone who would like to join is welcome to attend meetings. More information is available at www.bananasc.co.uk
